Slight Marital Concern

After all that work on the dinning room, all that sweat, all those tears, all those long hours, all those accidental security alarm trips...and my husband goes and puts a 1982 gold, glass, and plastic sanctuary attempt at a chandelier in what was just starting to shape up into a room I didn't mind spending some extended periods of time in... I have some pictures but they don't do the nasty trash any justice. I don't care that it was free, I don't care that it will stay with the house, I don't care that it was free, I don't care that you could paint it, I don't care that it was free, I don't care that you cleaned it up, I don't care that it was free..... A) True it will be staying with this house B) Paint is NOT the issue, the issue is that it looks like what it is...a free chandelier from my parents church C) Cleaning the plastic pieces only made the fact that it BLINDS you even worse D) Putting a dimmer on it is not going to solve the UGLY, all that will do is keep us from having to warn guests to not look into the dinning room without protective eye wear!! E) I would PAY money to the put the ceiling fan back up!!!

But hey my husband really likes this chandelier!! So I am going to put it to a blog vote...see poll to the right of the screen...the fate of the chandelier could POSSIBLY be in your hands...

Allow me to be the first to vote: I like the chandelier, but I wouldn't put it in the dining room. It doesn't quite go. I think I would go for something with more brass, less glass (or plastic?). So, there. One point for each of you. (It's all about compromise after all, isn't it?! Kate, let him keep it. He can hang it up in his office. And you can get one you like for the dining room... from the store... or perhaps a garage sale...)

Seriously, it would go way better in the bedroom.

That'll teach her Ben. Go with passive aggression & spite. Just have it wired in the bedroom ceiling above the bed. She'll be begging for it to go back to the dining room.

For added affect, use only 100+ watt light bulbs so it's especially blinding.

i'm a big fan of male leadership in the household and female submission.

Didn't Kate's parents' church get rid of those things for a reason?

I haven't seen your dining room, so not sure if it is appropriate or not. I would not have the lighting fixture in my home, but like the idea of those lights living on...lighting the world...elsewhere - like your house :)

It's not wise for a grandmother to give her opinion in a marital dispute , BUT!!! I recognized the chandelier as being from the church before I read the blog. Maybe Ben have plans to turn the dinning room into a meeting room ( like bible study or home cell group and feels he needs to set the atmosphere ).Put the fan up, it has more benefits. Leave the church in the church. Sorry Ben, I love you but this time she is right. You're ideas are usually good, what happened? Thank goodness, God looks at our heart and not our lighting. I know your heart is in the right place. Happy decorating.
By the way Kate, good job on the curtains.
Love ya, Gma

That is the ugliest chandelier i have ever seen! Kate, you need to just take it down while he is at work.

I'm so glad that I have found your blog.

Now, I'm not one to get into marital disputes, but since you invited my comment, I'll put in a few comments.

First, I have to say that I need a bit more data. The pics just don't do it justice. I'm sure that it would look nicer with a dimmer switch turned down low.

Second, a church chandelier with the best of all budget materials - plastic! How could I not just love it!

Third, given the fact that the landfills are overflowing, I applaud Ben for recycling this artifact. Perhaps more chandeliers can be rescued from the landfill so that you can continue the theme throughout the house.

That's the funniest thing ever! I'll be voting for Ben to take that thing down. LOL! Thanks Kate for a much needed laugh today!
